What a fun group of kids! We have had a very full month. It included learning about farms and pumpkins before heading to the Farmstead for a fabulous field trip!
We tried to soak up every bit of nice weather we possibly could before the cold moved in.
We furthered our language development by discussing every imaginable topic at carpet time, reading stories, learning silly songs, and the really important stuff like what costume we were dressing up in for Halloween.
We like to combining science and math by cutting open pumpkins. We first predicted what might be inside, then scooped out the "guts", and counted the seeds inside. We developed hand strength and coordination by using tongs to grasp and move objects, throwing beanbags, rings, and balls at targeted areas, stirring our potions, and attempting to write. We studied spiders and the number 8 along with bats and deciding monster aren't scary (or real).
We used our imaginations and language to identify things in the apothecary, add ingredients to potions, look at picture books, tell stories, setup play areas and invite friends, and use words to tell the teachers when we need something or are frustrated.
A highlight for some was exploring the concept of "too much" at the potion making table. We were allowed to use as much shaving cream as we wanted or could get from the can ourselves. Some of the magic we talked about our potions having included; getting any pet you want, making people happy, putting people to sleep, any medicine you needed it to be, giving you any superpower you wanted, and more. Pretty magical indeed! Enjoy our photos!
