January Jubilee! Miss Diana PM Class

Ice castles was our culminating event in January, and they were COOL! We experienced the science of rock salt melting tunnels into the ice and table salt acting as glue to stick the pieces together.  Using pipettes to add color to our castles extended our learning as we mixed colors and helped us practice eye-hand coordination and pencil grip by continually squeezing the bulb to obtain and release the colors.  The cause and effect aspect of this activity is very instructive.
We also studied snowflakes, snowmen, (should I say snowpersons?) penguins, polar bears, and other arctic animals.  Did you know Miss Lindsay's dad used to live in Antarctica and trained the scientists in survival?
Our hands are continuing to grow and scissor practice is a favorite skill.  We also use tiny pieces of chalk and crayon to encourage pincer grasp rather than fist grip.
The penguins and pets were very well taken care of in the veterinary center which then evolved into a doctor office.
Our independence is growing and we can do so any things on our own now.
Remember Maria Montessori's advice, "Never do for a child what they can do for themselves."
This is key in developing confidence and self esteem.
